Frequently Asked Questions
Are all snakes on the Gold Coast dangerous?
While many species are harmless, the Gold Coast is home to highly venomous snakes like the Eastern Brown. Always treat sightings with extreme caution and never attempt to handle a reptile yourself. Some of the most common snakes found on the Gold Coast include the Common Tree Snake and Coastal Carpet Python.Â
What is the emergency safety protocol?
1. Stay calm and keep pets away. 2. Monitor the snake from a distance of at least 5 meters. 3. Call 1300 724 477 immediately. 4. Do not take your eyes off it until help arrives.
Do you provide relocation services?
Yes, our team of Gold Coast Snake Catchers are licensed and insured professionals with a Damage Mitigation Permit issued by the Queensland Government. We provide ethical wildlife rescues, captures and relocations of snakes and other reptiles to suitable bushland habitats away from residential properties to ensure everyone's safety.
How fast is your response time?
We operate 24/7 across the entire Gold Coast region. Our specialists aim for an urgent response, typically arriving at your property within 20 to 45 minutes of your emergency call. We will always provide you with an ETA and confirmation from our team that a catcher is on the way to you.Â
Can I kill a snake on my property?
No. All native snakes are protected under the Nature Conservation Act as part of Queensland Law. It is illegal to capture, kill, injure or relocate a snake without the proper authority or permit. Harming snakes also carries heavy penalties and increases the risk of being bitten for humans when they try to catch or kill a snake.Â
What should I do if I see a snake?
Keep a safe distance and monitor its movements whilst calling a snake catcher. Ensure all pets and children are safely away from the snake and call our team of text us for a FREE snake ID.Â
Are there FREE snake catchers?
No, the Gold Coast City Council and Queensland State Government do not provide any funding or services to capture and relocate snakes. The work we do is through our family business and solely run on the funds and time dedicated by our clients and snake catchers.Â
Are pythons dangerous to my pets?
Whilst Coastal Carpet Pythons are non-venomous they can pose a risk to small domestic animals or cats and dogs that might come into contact with them. They have a large mouth of teeth and a bite can become an injury or expensive trip to the vet so we always suggest removing the risk by relocating a python where there are pets.Â
Where do snakes like to hide?
Across the Gold coast we have a variety of homes with retaining walls and other materials that become homes for snakes too. As we as humans attract rodents and mice, our interaction with snakes becomes more likely and we see snakes commonly in long grass, rock walls, roof cavities, under outdoor decking and around pool pumps.Â
What should I do for a snake bite?
1. Call 000 immediately for an ambulance.
2. Keep the patient completely still. Movement accelerates the spread of venom through the lymphatic system.
3. Apply a Pressure Immobilisation Bandage (PIB). Wrap a broad, elastic bandage firmly over the bite site, then extend it up the entire limb.
4. Do not wash, cut, or suck the wound, as residual venom on the skin is needed for hospital antivenom identification kits.
